Annandale Driver Dies After Car Hits Tree: Police

Police say the Annandale man, 61, died after a one-car crash this weekend in Montgomery County, Md.

An Annandale man died over the weekend after the car he was driving hit a tree in Montgomery County, Md., according to the Montgomery County, Md. Police Department.

Annandale resident Leland Thomas, 61, of Annandale, was driving a 2011 Chevrolet Silverado when it crashed Saturday night, according to police.

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Department's Collision Reconstruction Unit are investigating the one-car crash; Thomas was the only person in the car, police said.

The crash happened Saturday at about about 7:38 p.m.; officers from Montgomery County's 1st District and Fire and Rescue personnel responded to the area, at 16001 Partnership Road (see map below) for the report of a crash.

Police say their preliminary investigation indicates Thomas was traveling south on Partnership Road. Police say they aren't sure why, but the vehicle left the roadway in the area of 16001 Partnership Road and struck a tree.

Thomas was pronounced dead at the scene. The collision remains under investigation. Anyone with information about the crash is asked to contact the Montgomery County Police Department's Collision Reconstruction Unit at 240-773-6620.
