Back to School Resource Fair at Annandale High, Firefighter Accepts World Games Torch
Five things you need to know in Annandale today.

Happy Wednesday, Annandale! Here are a few things going on in and around Annandale for Aug. 21.
- Today is the Annandale High School Back to School Resource Fair for schools in the AHS pyramid. The fair is from 2-7 p.m. at AHS. There will be clothing and school supplies available to families in need. For more details about the fair, read the Annandale Parent-Teacher Student Association's newsletter (see page 10 in the PDF).
- Linwood Taylor will perform tonight at Mason District Park at 7:30 p.m. and perform a variety of texas swing blues songs.
- A $3.1 million federal grant awarded to the Fairfax County Fire Department will allow the department to hire 19 new firefighters.
- There was a minor mattress fire at an Annandale nursing home early Tuesday morning, but luckily, no one was injured.
- Capt. Jerome Williams of the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department accepted the torch for the upcoming World Police and Fire Games to officially transfer the 2015 games to Fairfax County.
