Two adults were displaced after fire Sunday at Annandale home.

ANNANDALE, VA -- At approximately 6:50 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 13, Fairfax County firefighter units were dispatched for a reported house fire in the 4500 block of Hillbrook Road in Annandale (see map below for approximate location of home).

Units from Fire Station 8, Annandale, arrived first to find a two-story single family home with smoke showing from the roof area. Crews quickly located a fire in the basement area of the home. The fire was extinguished and contained to the basement.

One adult was home, noticed smoke in the house, and called 9-1-1, according to the fire department. The occupant safely got out of the house before the fire department arrived. Smoke alarms were present in the home and did activate, the fire department said.

Fire investigators determined that the fire originated in the utility room in the basement. The cause of the fire was accidental in nature: storage of ordinary combustibles placed too close to the boiler system, the fire department said.

There were no reported firefighter or civilian injuries. Red Cross assistance was required for two adult occupants of the home. Damages to the structure and property were estimated to be $100,000.00
