Suffering From Migraines? NoVA Nurse Practitioner Earns Certification In Headache Medicine

ANNANDALE, VA — A family nurse practitioner who lives in Annandale earned a professional certification from the National Headache Foundation that will aid in treating patients with headaches and migraines.

Caroline Stowe received a Certificate of Added Qualification in Headache Medicine, administered by the National Headache Foundation, after successfully completing a competency exam. Stowe became eligible to take the competency exam after working for years as a family nurse practitioner.

Stowe, a nurse practitioner since 2010, received a bachelor of science in biology from the College of Charleston in South Carolina, and a bachelor of science in nursing and a master of science in nursing from Johns Hopkins University.

After a decade in family medicine and women’s health, Stowe now works as the migraine clinical team lead for the telemedicine company Nurx. She is a member of the Virginia Council of Nurse Practitioners, the American Association of Nurse Practitioners, the National Headache Foundation and the American Headache Foundation.

The goals of the Certificate of Added Qualification in Headache Medicine (AQH) are to establish standards for headache practice and to help people with migraine disease and headache disorders find clinicians who can provide quality headache-related health care.

Stowe, who lives in Fairfax County with her husband, two children, two dogs and two cats, is also pursuing her doctor of nursing practice from George Mason University, with an expected graduation date of May 2022.

Members of the public who suffer from headaches and migraines can find a list of AQH-certified professionals, including Stowe, in a directory on the National Headache Foundation website.
