Pedestrian Dies in Crash in Annandale: Police

The man who died was crossing Columbia Pike and was not in a crosswalk, police said.

ANNANDALE, VA -- Fairfax County Police report that a male pedestrian died after he was struck Saturday night by a truck on Columbia Pike.

Officers responded to the report of a serious crash in the 7100 block of Columbia Pike on Saturday, Oct. 29, shortly before 7 p.m. Officers assessed the situation and summoned detectives from the Crash Reconstruction Unit.

The initial investigation determined that a 55-year-old man was attempting to cross the street, at 7118 Columbia Pike. At the same time, a 2015 Ford pickup truck, driven by a 51-year-old woman, exited a parking lot at 7117 Columbia Pike, heading west. The truck struck the man, who was in the middle of the westbound lanes, according to police, and not in a crosswalk. The driver of the truck remained on the scene.

The pedestrian, Ha Yong Jung, of Ellicott City, Md., was transported to Inova Fairfax Hospital and was pronounced dead.

Speed and alcohol are not considered factors in this crash. No charges are anticipated. The investigation continues, police said.
