Arlington Man With Machete Charged With Attempted Malicious Wounding

A man with a machete chased after a man and threatened him on a street near Clarendon early Monday morning, according to police.

ARLINGTON, VA — A man with a machete chased after a man on a street near Clarendon early Monday morning, according to the Arlington County Police Department.

The victim was able to run away and find a safe location. He was not injured in the incident, police said.

The suspect, Jose Gutierrez Del Cid, 33, of Arlington was arrested and charged with attempted malicious wounding, brandishing and public intoxication, according to police. He was held without bond.

After responding to the incident around 3:15 a.m. on Monday, police determined that the victim was outside an apartment building in the 2300 block of 11th Street North when he saw a man walk by holding a machete.

The suspect returned and started a conversation with the man. He then held up the machete and the victim ran away, police said. The suspect chased after the victim while making threatening statements, according to police.

Police officers were able to find the suspect with the machete and take him into custody without incident, police said.
