Parents in Arlington can mark the first day of school coming later in August.
ARLINGTON, VA — Back-to-school planning has already begun in Arlington, with calendars available to help parents prepare for the first day of school for their children and the rest of the school year.
The first day of school for most students in Arlington Public Schools is Aug. 28.
Heading into the upcoming school year, some dates are subject to change. Here is the list of dates to know for this school year:

APS School Calendar For 2023-2024
- Aug. 10: All staff returns
- Aug. 28: First Day of School K-12
- Aug. 29: First Day of School PreK & Virginia Preschool Initiative
- Sept. 1 and 4: Labor Day holiday
- Sept. 25: Yom Kippur holiday
- Oct. 9: No school for students (countywide PL for staff)
- Oct. 19: Elementary early release for parent-teacher conferences
- Oct. 20: No school for elementary and middle school students - parent-teacher conferences
- Nov. 6: End of 1st quarter
- Nov. 7: No school for students (grade preparation day)
- Nov. 10: Veterans Day holiday
- Nov. 22-24: Thanksgiving break
- Dec. 6: Early release for elementary/middle/high school (countywide PL for staff)
- Dec. 21-29: Winter break
- Jan. 1: New Year’s Day holiday
- Jan. 15: Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. holiday
- Jan. 26: End of 2nd quarter
- Jan. 29: No school for students (grade preparation day)
- Feb. 7: Early release for elementary/middle/high school (countywide PL for staff)
- Feb. 19: Presidents Day holiday
- March 14: Elementary early release for parent-teacher conferences
- March 15: No school for elementary and middle school students - parent-teacher conferences; early release for high school (school-based PL for staff)
- March 25-29: Spring break
- April 10: Eid al-Fitr holiday
- April 15: No school for students (grade preparation day); end of 3rd quarter
- May 3: Early release for elementary/middle/high school (school-based PL for staff)
- May 27: Memorial Day holiday
- June 5: Elementary early release
- June 10-12: High school early release
- June 12: Last day of high school; elementary - early release
- June 14: Last day of elementary and middle school - early release
