ARLINGTON, VA — Arlington Public Library is celebrating National Night Out at Cherrydale Library on Tuesday, Aug. 1, with lawn games and a barbeque.

The event will be held on the lawn outside the library from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

National Night Out is a community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make neighborhoods safer and improve quality of life.

Registration is not required for the event at the Cherrydale Library.

The Arlington County Police Department is inviting other neighborhoods across the county to gather for National Night Out events on Tuesday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

National Night Out is a national program held annually on the first Tuesday of August and, in 2023, is celebrating its 40 anniversary. Along with promoting neighborhood camaraderie, National Night Out is an opportunity to promote and practice crime prevention strategies.

ACPD invites participants to lock their doors, turn their porch lights on and secure their property using the methods contained in the "9 P.M. Routine" before spending the evening with neighbors, law enforcement, firefighters and county employees.

Cherrydale Library is located at 2190 Military Road in Arlington.
