Thousands Enjoy 5 Days Of Food, Rides, Games At Arlington County Fair

Thousands enjoyed the Arlington County Fair's rides, games, vendors and musical performances at the Thomas Jefferson Community Center.

ARLINGTON, VA — The Arlington County Fair attracted thousands to its outdoor rides and games and vendors and musical performances inside and outside the Thomas Jefferson Community Center over the past five days.

The fair also offered sensory friendly hours, where the public was able to enjoy the festivities without loud music and other noises.

One of the highlights of the fair was the pie-eating contest sponsored by Livin’ the Pie Life, the maker of the pies, along with the Arlington Jaycees, and Bicycle Realty.

The event required participants to eat one slice of pie with no hands. The first three contestants in each age group to finish everything on their plate were declared the winners.

Miss Arlington Rosie Hartwell and Arlington County Sheriff Jose Quiroz were among the judges in the pie-eating contest.

District Brewing Company operated the beer garden on 2nd Street S., where a variety of craft beers were offered to attendees.

The grounds at the Thomas Jefferson Community Center are not large enough to have an agricultural component like the Montgomery County fair in Maryland. But like in Montgomery County, the exhibits, games, rides, food and entertainment in Arlington attracted people of all ages.

Unlike the Montgomery County fairgrounds, attendees did not need to pass through metal detectors to enjoy the activities in Arlington. Police and other fire responders were on hand to help to keep fair goers safe.

ART Buses shuttled attendees between the county government building in Courthouse and the fairgrounds.

The Arlington County Sheriff’s Office, police department and other county agencies had large tables inside the community center where residents could learn about their services.

The August weather cooperated to provide perfect conditions for attendees to enjoy a final summer celebration before kids head back to school next Monday.
