Thousands Lose Power In Crystal City, Pentagon City Areas Of Arlington
Thousands of customers lost power in Crystal City, Pentagon City and surrounding neighborhoods in Arlington late Tuesday morning.

ARLINGTON, VA — Thousands of customers lost power in Crystal City, Pentagon City and nearby neighborhoods in Arlington late Tuesday morning after an underground cable failed.
A Dominion Energy employee was treated for injuries at the scene of the incident and was released, the company said.
At about 11:20 a.m. on Tuesday, a splice in an underground cable failed, causing an arc and more than 10,000 customers to lose power in Arlington, according to Dominion.

"We're working to have all customers restored as quickly as possible," Dominion spokeswoman Peggy Fox said.
Shortly before 6 p.m., the number of customers without power in Arlington had dropped to about 3,100.

The Arlington County Fire Department responded to many calls of people stuck in elevators in the Crystal City area, which is filled with high-rise apartment and office buildings, ARLnow reported Tuesday.
The Arlington Parks and Recreation Department said the Long Bridge Aquatic & Fitness Center and Gunston Community Center closed until further notice due to the power outage.
"Thank you for your patience as crews work to restore service at the center," the parks department said.
Reagan National Airport also experienced a power outage around noon, WJLA reported.
ARLnow noted that Dominion's outage map shows the power is out into the Aurora Highlands and Arlington Ridge neighborhoods, including Oakridge Elementary School.
