Students Take Summer Trip To Inaugurate African Schoolhouse
Students from BASIS Independent McLean traveled to Senegal this summer to inaugurate a new schoolhouse they had raised thousands of dollars to build. The trip to the town of Khombole, about a 90-minute drive east of Senegal’s capital city of Dakar, was a perfect language-building opportunity for the students from BASIS Independent McLean's French program and allowed the students to learn about Senegalese culture.

Video: Young Fox Hides Feral Cat Popeye's Water Bowl
Early on Thursday morning, a young fox outfoxed Popeye, the feral cat living in the Tudor Hall neighborhood located just north of the Fairfax City border. The family of a Patch reporter has been leaving water, a bowl of food, and treats for Popeye every night for the last several years. A Ring camera has captured video of Popeye's nightly visits many times.
Fall 2023 Event: Halloween Stampede, Art on the Avenue
There will be plenty of fall happenings in Alexandria from September to November. This year, expect favorites like Art on the Avenue, Historic Alexandria Homes Tour, Taste of Old Town North and Del Ray Halloween Parade. You can also check out new events like Tall Ship Providence's Ghost Ship Providence and Halloween Howl and Alexandria Oktoberfest.
Teacher Ensures Autistic Students Part Of Larger Community
Andrew “Gracen” Carroll of the City of Fairfax, who teaches special ed preschool for autistic children, is extremely dedicated to ensuring his students get all the help possible to start their lives, ensuring their inclusion in the larger community, according to his mother.
