LOUDOUN COUNTY, VA — A new tennis complex will come to Loudoun County, the United States Tennis Association Mid-Atlantic Section announced on Thursday. The new facility will host a total of 36 tennis courts and eight pickleball courts.

The USTA has not announced an exact location for the new facility. However, officials confirmed that the facility would be located near Leesburg and the Dulles Greenway. Officials said they plan to open the complex in 2025.

The facility is still in the planning phases. The development is awaiting approval by county officials on a rezoning application.

The Loudoun County Board of Supervisors plan to award a $250,000 business incentive to the USTA for the new facility. Supervisors and the county's Board of Economic Development will host a public vote to approve the incentive package on March 15.

"The USTA Mid-Atlantic headquarters and facility adds another dimension to the diverse recreational options and sports assets in our county," Loudoun Economic Development Executive Director Buddy Rizer said in a news release. “We have been working with the USTA MAS team for years to bring this concept to reality, and today every step of that journey was rewarded with a great project that all Loudouners can be proud of."

In addition to its 36 tennis courts, the new facility will also have 190,000 square feet. The complex will have a pro shop, a stringing station, locker rooms, a players lounge, and classrooms.

"This project will provide a place where the next generation of players can learn perseverance, integrity, and fair play,” Loudoun Chair-at-large Phyllis Randall said. “The pandemic has shown us just how important it is for all our residents to have access to open space and opportunities for outdoor recreation. This project will provide both outdoor and indoor courts which will provide a wonderful place for our citizens to get exercise and have fun safely.”

USTA is a 501(c)3 nonprofit. In a news release, officials emphasized the importance of community in tennis.

Tara Fitzpatrick-Navarro is the CEO of USTA Mid-Atlantic. She said the organization has a community-first approach to making meaningful change.

"We have an enormous opportunity to use tennis as a way to impart meaningful change among individuals and communities and introduce the sport to so many more people,” Fitzpatrick-Navarro said. "Our community-first approach with our pursuit of the tennis campus will allow us to build something that will be transformative and unmatched in ability to elevate and enhance lives, the community, and the entire Mid-Atlantic region."

The USTA plans to host leagues and tournaments at the new facility. Officials estimated they would host 78,000 attendees at 50 events each year. They also claimed the facility would bring $8.5 million to Loudoun County annually.

More information and details about the new facility are available on the USTA's website.
