ADAMS Condemns Crackdown on Egyptian Protesters

The Sterling-based Islamic organization speaks out against the violence, regardless of who is being targeted.

The Dulles Area Muslim Society (ADAMS) issued the following statement Aug. 16 in response to the violence in Egypt and calling for peace:

“The All Dulles Area Muslim Society (ADAMS) is deeply saddened by and staunchly condemns the unacceptable violence that has marked the recent protests in Egypt.  We also condemn the attacks against Christian Churches. Our thoughts and prayers, and sincere condolences, are with the families of all those who have been killed or injured.  We ask God Almighty to have mercy on the souls of those who have died, and to grant His mercy and a full and quick recovery to all those injured in these lamentable and tragic incidents.

We fully support and join with the United States Government in calling for the Egyptian military and security forces to show restraint, and respect for the human rights of its citizens, and we urge that all sides find a non-violent, peaceful, and democratic resolution.

We also call for all Egyptians to continue to support Democracy, Human Rights, Minority Rights, Women's Rights & Religious Freedom in their country, and encourage all sides to come together in peace and harmony to resolve the situation peacefully, and with the participation of and concern for all segments of Egyptian Society.

ADAMS believes that such violent reactions will unfortunately increase the challenges that Egypt already faces in its effort to achieve political stability and economic prosperity, and to sustain the democracy that was the hope of all Egyptians and others in the region during the Arab Spring. The entire world is watching what is happening in Cairo, and these events can have repercussions far beyond the borders of Egypt.

We therefore urge the Government of Egypt - and all its citizens and political parties - to eschew any such violence, which runs so counter to the principles and teachings of Islam and our Holy Prophet (pbuh), and resolve their differences calmly and rationally, and with due respect for all sides and for the rights of all Egyptians.

The All Dulles Area Muslim Society (ADAMS), one of the largest Muslim communities/mosques in the DC Metro Area and in the United States, is a non-profit 501c (3) Organization that serves over 5000 families with 10 branches in Virginia/DC - Ashburn, Crystal City, Fairfax, Greater Gainesville,North Reston, South Riding, Sterling/Herndon, Sully/Chantilly, Tysons Corner,  and Washington DC. ADAMS is governed by a 13-member democratically elected Board of Trustees that includes both men and women.
