Richard Brans Elwell, 82

Mr. Richard Brans Elwell, 82, of Ashburn, VA, passed away peacefully Monday, Dec. 31, 2012.

Mr. Elwell was born in New York, NY, the son of the late Richard E. and Annie Brans Elwell.

Mr. Elwell worked as an attorney for the FAA before retiring in 1986. He also served his country honorably, retiring from U.S. Marines Corps Reserve in 1983 as a lieutenant colonel.

Mr. Elwell is survived by his beloved wife Joan Barbara Elwell of Ashburn, VA; his son Robert and daughter-in-law Manami Elwell of Herndon, VA; daughter Karen Elwell of Springfield, VA; daughter Barbara and son-in-law James Carmichael of Leesburg, VA; and 3 grandchildren.

A Funeral service will begin at noon Thursday, Jan. 10, 2013, at Semper Fidelis Memorial Chapel, 18900 Jefferson Davis Highway, in Triangle, VA. The family will receive guests prior to the funeral beginning at 11 a.m.  Interment will follow in Quantico National Cemetery, Quantico, VA.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Mr. Elwell’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
