$3 Million Copper Theft Ring Leads To Bust In Loudoun County

Thefts of copper wire collectively valued at $3 million have led to three arrests, according to the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office.

LOUDOUN COUNTY, VA — A copper wire theft ring with losses topping $3 million led to three arrests by the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office.

Sheriff's deputies arrested Alexandru Constantin, 43; Cristinel Petrovici, 38; and Robert Ciucur, 29, of College Park, Maryland with help from Maryland State Police, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Department of the Army Criminal Investigation Division and the U.S. Marshals Service.

The arrests follow an eight-month investigation into reports of copper wire being stolen at different utility facilities. The thefts happened primarily in Loudoun County as well as other parts of the region. Copper wire can be stolen due to its high value.

Constantin, Petrovici and Cuicur are each charged with grand larceny and conspiracy to commit larceny. The investigation is ongoing, and additional charges are possible.
