Ashburn's Emily Fox Wins Olympic Gold With U.S. Women's Soccer Team
Emily Fox, a Stone Bridge High School graduate who was part of the U.S. women's soccer team that won its first gold medal since 2012.
ASHBURN, VA — Ashburn's own Emily Fox earned a gold medal as part of the United States Women’s National Team in the Paris Olympics women's soccer final Saturday.
The U.S. team won the gold medal match 1-0 over Brazil. Mallory Swanson scored the game's only goal. In the bronze medal match, Germany defeated Spain 1-0.
This was the fifth gold medal for the U.S. Women's team and its first since the London 2012 Olympics. Fox, a 26-year-old defender, played in every match during the Olympics tournament.

Fox is a Stone Bridge High School graduate who was chosen first by the Racing Louisville FC in the NWSL draft. A rookie of the year finalist in 2021, she now plays for Arsenal FC. She was first called up to the U.S. Women's National Team in 2018, helped the U.S. win its sixth SheBelieves Cup in 2023 and helped the U.S. Women's National Team qualify for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup and 2024 Summer Olympics. She participated in one match at the 2018 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup and all six U.S. matches at the 2016 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup.
The women's soccer team win helped the U.S. tie China for the most gold medals at the Paris Olympics — 40. The U.S. had the most overall medals of any country, with 126 overall — 40 gold, 44 silver and 42 bronze.
