Backpack Coalition Program Raises $30K+ for Sterling and Lucketts Elementary

Loudoun County’s Backpack Coalition Program just received more than $30,000 in donations to provide meals for Sterling Elementary and Lucketts Elementary School children who are food insecure.

Jennifer M. Scott, principal of Sterling Elementary, accepted a $10,000 donation Wednesday, July 30 from Dr. Eric Doyle of Palmercare Chiropractic. The donation will go toward the Loudoun County Public Schools’ Backpack Coalition to feed students attending Sterling Elementary.

Karen Schaufeld of 100WomenStrong presented a matching $10,000 donation as part of a commitment to match each dollar donated to the Loudoun Education Foundation up to $100,000.

100WomenStrong also awarded Lucketts Elementary School $5,600 in a donation matching a check from Leesburg Moose on Aug. 4.

The Backpack Coalition Program is a new LCPS program in the Office of Outreach that supports existing BackPack Buddies programs and helps set up programs for schools without similar programs. Funds donated by 100WomenStrong and Leesburg Moose will establish a new program at Lucketts Elementary that will serve 60 students in need of food on the holidays and weekends.

The Backpack Coalition, the Loudoun Education Foundation, 100WomenStrong, Loudoun Interfaith Relief and the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank are partnering to raise at least $200,000 during the summer fund drive to support 16,000 Loudoun County children who are food insecure.
