Authorities are investigating a claim that an Ashburn man was fatally shot after his dog attacked another dog.

ASHBURN, VA — Authorities are investigating a claim that an Ashburn man was fatally shot after his dog attacked another dog.

The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office said the shooting that occurred Saturday morning in the 20000 block of Timber Ridge Terrace in Ashburn. At 7:20 a.m., deputies found Billy Gamarra-Olarte, 34, of Ashburn suffering from a single gunshot wound.

He was taken to a nearby hospital and later pronounced dead.

The sheriff's office said in a news release it has identified all those directly involved in the incident.

NBC 4 reported a friend who asked not to be identified said Gamarra-Olarte's pit bull got loose and attacked another dog, which caused the other dog owner to shoot Gamarra-Olarte.
