Federal Worker Resource Hub Launched By Loudoun County

Loudoun County has joined other localities in launching a resource hub seeks to help federal workers amid workforce reductions.

LOUDOUN COUNTY, VA — As the Trump administration takes actions to reduce the federal workforce, Loudoun County has shared a resource hub to support affected workers.

The resource hub outlines assistance for employment services and opportunities, food assistance, health services, housing assistance, insurance coverage, legal assistance, mental health resources, pet resources, unemployment insurance, veterans benefits, legislative representatives, and federal employment rules. Loudoun County estimates about 18,000 federal workers could be impacted by workforce reductions. The county is also home to businesses that provide services to the federal government.

Loudoun County will host a public sector job fair on March 18 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Dulles South Recreation and Community Center, 24950 Riding Center Drive in South Riding.

There have been numerous lawsuits related to federal worker job losses. On Wednesday, Rep. Don Beyer (D-Alexandria) shared that the Merit Systems Protection Board blocked the firings of six probationary federal workers. The Office of Special Counsel, which referred the case to the board, and the organizations that filed the case said they would seek broader actions for fired probationary employees.

Last week, a federal judge denied a broader lawsuit to stop the federal worker job losses. According to NBC News, the judge said the matter about federal worker reductions and probational worker firings would have to go before the Federal Labor Relations Authority. Another lawsuit filed challenges the federal government's "abuse" of the probationary period to fire workers.

Rep. Suhas Subramanyam, who represents Loudoun County in the 10th congressional district, hosted a previous town hall in Loudoun County drawing significant attendance from current and past federal workers. The congressman is hosting another town hall at Battlefield High School in Haymarket at 7 p.m. on Feb. 27. The town hall will be livestreamed on Facebook, Instagram and TikTok for those who cannot attend in person.
