LCSO Joins FBI to Counteract Spike in Bank Robberies
A trend of increased bank robberies during the month of December has prompted the LCSO to help local banks prepare and prevent robberies.

The Sterling area has fallen victim to three bank robberies in recent weeks, prompting the Loudoun County Sheriff’s office to implement new measures to counteract bank robberies this holiday season.
In conjunction with the FBI Washington Field Office and the department’s partners on the Violent Crimes Task Forces in Northern Virginia, detectives with LCSO’s Criminal Investigations Division are visiting banks and speaking with their employees about steps to take before, during and after a robbery while the Field Operations Division is increasing patrols of Loudoun County banks.
A quarter of all bank robberies in the Washington, D.C. and Northern Virginia area over the past two years have taken place during the month of December, the FBI reports. To combat this spike in anticipated robberies, law enforcement agencies throughout the region are sharing information with banks and the public to raise awareness of the issue.
