5K For Mental Health Support Continues In Memory Of Dominion High School Student
The sixth annual race dedicated to mental health awareness will bring the community together in memory of Lane Burrows.

STERLING, VA — In 2019, the death of 15-year-old Dominion High School student Lane Michael Burrows by suicide led the family to start a 5K fundraiser and later a foundation to raise funds and awareness for mental health. It has become a place where other families can connect with the community, honor their loved ones and support mental health awareness.
The 6th Annual Live4Lane Memorial 5K will happen at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 4 at the Cascades Community Center 47620 Saulty Dr, Sterling, VA. Participants of all ages are welcome to join the family-friendly and dog-friendly 2.5K and 5K course. Check-in begins at 8 a.m. There will also be local vendors, community resource tables, a raffle, and silent auction. Sterling Volunteer Rescue Squad and Orangetheory Fitness will participate.
"Our mission is to honor Lane’s memory by building connections, supporting families, and breaking the stigma around mental health,” said Maranda Heil, Lane's mother and founder of The Live4Lane Foundation. "This walk is about coming together as a community to support our youth and remind them they are never alone."

Proceeds from the Live4Lane event benefit the Dominion High School Mental Health Advocate Scholarship, which is awarded annually to a senior who demonstrates leadership in mental health advocacy and wellness. Since the Live4Lane Foundation was founded, it has awarded over $29,500 in academic scholarships to help young people pursue higher education while promoting mental wellness.
Participants can get involved by registering to walk, becoming a sponsor, vendor or community partner, donating in-kind items for the raffle or silent auction, and helping to raise awareness about youth mental health.
