Democrats Srinivasan, Singh Declare Victory In Loudoun County Special Elections
JJ Singh and Kannan Srinivasan declared wins in special elections for Virginia House and Senate seats, respectively.

LOUDOUN COUNTY, VA — Despite the aftermath of a winter storm a day prior, voters in parts of Loudoun County headed to the polls Tuesday to cast votes in key special elections.
With all precincts reporting, Democrat Kannan Srinivasan is leading the 32nd Virginia Senate District race, and Democrat JJ Singh is leading the 26th Virginia House of Delegates district, according to unofficial results.
The 32nd Senate District special election was held to replace Suhas Subramanyam, who was elected to succeed Rep. Jennifer Wexton in the 10th Congressional District. Srinivasan is facing Republican Tumay Harding.

"This win is a victory for Loudoun, its families, and every Virginian across our Commonwealth," Srinivasan shared. "Tonight, we have shown that when we stand together and fight for the issues we care about, we win. From an immigrant to a Delegate, and now Senator-elect, I am deeply humbled by the opportunity to continue representing our community and its values."
Srinivasan resigned his 26th House District seat to run for the Senate seat, prompting another special election. Singh is running against Republican Ram Venkatachalam. Singh has 61.49 percent of votes with all 18 precincts reporting, while Venkatachalam had 38.33 percent.
Singh declared victory in a social media statement.
"Thank you House District 26 for putting your trust in me — I am honored to represent the community that my family calls home," Singh shared. "I'm ready to get to Richmond and get to work fighting for our values and deliver for Southeastern Loudoun County families!"
Without Democratic wins in both special elections, the party's control of the Virginia House and Senate was at stake. According to the Washington Post, a win for Republicans in the 32nd District would take the majority from the Democrats in the Senate, which currently stands at 21-19. If Republicans flip the seat, the parties would have the same number of seats, but Republican Lt. Gov. Winsome Sears could provide a tie-breaking vote.
In the House, the Democratic majority of 51-49 could turn into a tie if Republicans flip the 26th District seat. The Washington Post believes the parties would need a power-sharing agreement if that happened.
The Virginia Public Access Project labeled the 32nd district as strong Democratic. The district includes part of Loudoun County south of Route 7 like Ashburn, Brambleton, South Riding and Sterling. The 26th House District is also labeled as strong Democratic by VPAP and covers neighborhoods like Brambleton and South Riding in the southeastern part of the county.
Virginia House of Delegates seats will be up for election in 2025, with primaries on June 17 and the general election on Nov. 4. The Virginia Senate has elections next in 2027. The Virginia governor, lieutenant governor and attorney general are other state races happening in 2025.
