Loudoun Schools Make Weather Decision For Dec. 15

After icy conditions remain from the snowfall, Loudoun County Public Schools is adjusting its schedule on Monday.

LOUDOUN COUNTY, VA — Amid icy and cold conditions continuing from snowfall over the weekend, Loudoun County Public Schools is planning a two-hour delay Monday. The school district will open schools two hours late, while administrative offices will open on time.

LCPS consults with multiple weather sources, law enforcement and the Virginia Department of Transportation to make weather decisions, and Superintendent Aaron Spence makes the final call. Conditions of roads, school grounds and buses across the county are checked for weather-related decisions. Families can check LCPS communication channels and local TV and radio for weather delay and closing announcements.

While some areas to the north received several inches of snowfall, the National Weather Service's snowfall recordings show parts of Loudoun County received less than an inch to nearly two inches of snow. However, below-freezing temperatures and low wind chill values have caused icy patches to linger in some areas. Temperatures will approach 32 Monday, but get above freezing in the following days.
