ASHBURN, VA — Earvin "Magic" Johnson, an NBA hall of famer, is looking to purchase the Washington Commanders, according to reports from Sportico and The Washington Post.

Johnson has reportedly joined an investment group led by Josh Harris, who already owns the NBA's Philadelphia 76ers and the NHL's New Jersey Devils.

In November 2022, current Washington Commanders owner Dan Snyder announced he was looking to sell at least part of the team. Since then, several high-profile bidders have reportedly sought to purchase the NFL team, including Amazon founder and Post owner Jeff Bezos, rapper Jay-Z, and actor Matthew McConaughey.

Since the end of his playing career, Johnson has been involved with several ownership groups across different sports. Currently, Johnson owns parts of MLB's Los Angeles Dodgers, the WNBA's Los Angeles Sparks, and MLS's Los Angeles Football Club.

In 2022, Johnson and Harris attempted to purchase the NFL's Denver Broncos. The franchise eventually sold to a group led by Rob Walton for $4.65 billion.

Snyder is currently the subject of an NFL investigation. In 2021, Snyder was fined $10 million by the NFL and forced to step away from the team's day-to-day operations after an investigation found he fostered a hostile work environment.
