STERLING, VA—A man was arrested Thursday after pointing a gun at a motorist in the area of Blossom Drive and Waterloo Station Square and later firing it while police were investigating, according to the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office. Robert L. Shipley III, 33, of Sterling, was charged with reckless handling of a firearm, abduction, driving under the influence (second offense) and brandishing a firearm.
Around 9:15 p.m., police responded to the aforementioned area for a reported weapon brandishing. A man said a vehicle pulled alongside him, after which the driver got out and pointed a handgun at him before leaving. But as police were talking to the man, they heard a gunshot and saw the vehicle in question leaving the area.
Police pulled over the vehicle at Holly Avenue and Sequoia Court, found a gun inside and arrested Shipley.
