More Construction Site Theft Reported Around Ashburn

According to the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office, more construction site thefts have been reported at sites across Ashburn last week.

The first incident occurred on the 23600 block of Willshaw Square in Ashburn, where unknown subject(s) reportedly removed copper materials from an apartment building under construction. The incident reportedly took place within a 24-hour time period between the morning of Saturday, Nov. 8 and Sunday, Nov. 9.

The second incident occurred at the 23600 block of Richland Grove Drive in Ashburn, where another unknown subject(s) reportedly entered a newly constructed home and attempted to remove appliances. Damage occurred to the home during the attempted theft, according to officials. The incident reportedly occurred sometime between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 9.

The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office says construction site thefts are becoming an alarmingly common trend in the region. In the first two months of 2014, there were 29 reported larcenies from construction sites. In October, copper wiring was reported missing from multiple construction sites in Ashburn and Aldie.

The Sheriff’s Office is asking residents to report any suspicious activity seen at construction sites, particularly after hours. Items commonly targeted by the thieves include tools, building materials and copper. The thieves typically enter unfinished homes where materials and appliances are often left unsecured.
