New Early Voting Site Approved In Loudoun, Second Site Not Advancing
One of two board-selected early voting sites is moving forward, while county staff could not secure a lease for another site.

LOUDOUN COUNTY, VA — More Loudoun County residents will have closer early voting site access with approval from the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors Wednesday.
The board approved a new satellite early voting office at the soon-to-open Ashburn Recreation & Community Center, located at 21105 Coopers Hawk Drive in Ashburn, VA. The county's Elections and Voter Registration office recommended board approval of any new early voting sites before June 3 so the county could get Virginia attorney general approval for the November 2025 election. The county expects the Ashburn Recreation & Community Center to open in late summer.
"I'm thrilled that the Ashburn Rec Center is going to be an early voting location beginning this fall," said Supervisor Sylvia Glass (D-Broad Run) at Wednesday's meeting. "This location will be convenient for so many voters in both the 20147 and 20148 areas. I want to thank staff and the board for supporting this expansion expanding access to the ballot box in our county."

"I am thrilled, always happy when people have more access to voting more times, more locations," added Chair Phyllis Randall (D-at large). "But I will also say voting is a privilege and a right that we have, and people in other places walk miles and miles so they can vote. So no matter where the voting location is, go vote."
The county's elections office estimates it has funds within its budget to cover the $94,875 cost to open another early voting site at the Ashburn Recreation & Community Center.

However, county staff could not secure a lease for a second site at the George Washington University Campus Commons in Ashburn.
"Unfortunately, through no fault of staff, the site in Algonkian District at GW fell through, and we haven't been able to find a suitable location and probably won't be able to do that in time for the November election," said Supervisor Juli Briskman (D-Algonkian) at Wednesday's meeting. "I was excited we were going to have two new polling places. We will have one new early voting place this year, and we will continue to work on additional sites in the districts that do not have early voting as of now."
Briskman had introduced the measure in October 2024 to have county staff look into the feasibility of additional satellite early voting locations starting with the November 2025 election. In March, the board directed staff to seek leases for two possible Loudoun County early voting sites — the George Washington University Campus Commons in Ashburn (Algonkian District) and the Ashburn Recreation & Community Center in Ashburn (Ashburn District).
County staff are working on identifying another space in the Algonkian District and will return to the board once that is found.
Loudoun County currently has four early voting sites — the Office of Elections and Voter Registration in Leesburg and satellite locations at Carver Senior Center in Purcellville, Claude Moore Recreation Center in Sterling, and Dulles South Recreation Center in South Riding. Ashburn is one of the county's most populated communities and lacks an early voting site. Supervisor districts without an early voting site include Algonkian, Ashburn, Broad Run and Little River.
In March, the board also directed staff to study the feasibility of an early voting site in western Loudoun County, per an amendment by Supervisor Caleb Kershner (R-Catoctin). That would include identifying specific locations for early voting, particularly in Lovettsville and the underserved western part of the Little River District.
For the June 17 primary election, the early voting sites are the Office of Elections in Leesburg starting on May 2, and the Claude Moore Recreation Center, Dulles South Recreation Center and Carver Senior Center starting on June 17.
