Phone Scams in Loudoun County Continue

Loudoun County Sheriff's Office has received two reports of callers claiming to be with the LCSO.

On September 19th, a resident on the 600 block of Newington Place in Leesburg reported receiving several calls from a person claiming to be from the LCSO. The caller claimed the victim had a warrant for arrest for failing to appear in court.

According to police reports, the victim was advised to obtain PayPal My Cash cards and to come to the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office.

The caller first asked the victim to provide the PIN number for validation. The caller stated he would call the victim back after the cards were validated. The victim later realized the incident was a scam.

A similar call was placed on September 22nd in the morning between 9:00 am and 12:14 pm at 21500 block of Sheffield Court in Ashburn.

LCSO said that this resident also received a call from a person claiming to be with the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office and claimed the resident had outstanding warrants and needed to pay monies.

The victim was advised to obtain a PayPal gift card from a local store but the victim later determined it was a fraud.
