Pool At Ashburn Recreation Center Reopens After Potential Glass Concern
The newly-opened Ashburn Recreation and Community Center was experiencing a temporary closure of one feature due to potential glass.

UPDATE: The competition pool reopened at 8 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 15, Loudoun County Parks, Recreation and Community Services said.
ASHBURN, VA — Not long after the Ashburn Recreation and Community Center opened to the public, one of its features is temporarily closed.
Loudoun County Parks, Recreation and Community Services reported potential glass has temporarily closed the competition pool at the new recreation center. According to the news release, a non-mercury glass thermometer was accidentally broken during routine monitoring. The leisure pool and spa are not affected by the closure.

Staff will be draining, cleaning and removing any glass from the pool during the temporary closure. The county expects the competition pool to reopen at 8 a.m. on Aug. 15. Updates on the status of the pool will be provided on the Ashburn Recreation and Community Center Facebook page.
Parks, Recreation and Community Services encourages residents to use the Claude Moore Recreation and Community Center or the Dulles South Recreation and Community Center during the competition pool closure. Both facilities have competition and leisure pools, a hot tub, a lazy river, and an open swim and play area. The Round Hill Indoor Aquatic Center also has an indoor pool.

A grand opening for the Ashburn Recreation and Community Center was held on July 31. The new two-story facility features a 50-meter competition pool, leisure pool, spa, the Loudoun County parks and recreation system's largest full-size gymnasium, a sensory room, multipurpose room with a teaching kitchen, licensed preschool and child care classrooms, offices and meeting spaces. The indoor basketball gymnasium will have twelve basketball hoops and include game line markings for basketball, badminton, pickleball and volleyball.
The second floor hosts fitness areas, a running track, a dedicated cycling studio, spectator seating for the competition pool and a viewing area for the leisure pool. The center also has a recovery room with hydromassage and cryo lounges, Normatec compression, and red light therapy.
A multi-use trail is located outside along with a large courtyard with seating, a splash play area and a playground for children aged 2 to 12 years. Classes and programs will be offered in the fall.
There is an admission cost for the recreation and community center. Regular hours are 5 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. on weekdays and 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on weekends.
