Potential Scam: 'Microsoft Employee' Attempts to Trespass Sterling Resident's Computer

A Sterling resident contacted authorities Tuesday after a caller claiming to be with Microsoft requested credit card information.

The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office received a report Tuesday afternoon from a resident of Mallard Street in Sterling who received a phone call from a person claiming to be with Microsoft.

The caller claimed the resident’s computer had a virus and they needed to access it remotely. The resident became suspicious of the call after the caller attempted to gain credit card information to purchase protection plans.
