Scope Of Gloucester Parkway Extension Reduced By Loudoun Supervisors

The Board of Supervisors removed a portion of the planned extension of Gloucester Parkway.

ASHBURN, VA — An extension of Gloucester Parkway has been removed by the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors from the county's transportation planning.

The board voted earlier in September to no longer pursue the segment of the Gloucester Parkway between Belmont Ridge Road in Ashburn and Cochran Mill Road in Leesburg. The removed portion would have included a bridge over Goose Creek. Gloucester Parkway currently runs between Belmont Ridge Road and turns into Nokes Boulevard east of Route 28.

GThe county will still seek other parts of the Gloucester Parkway extension, with new road construction between Cochran Mill Road and Crosstrail Boulevard in Leesburg and improvements to Cochran Mill Road. The road extension will align with Kincaid Boulevard at Crosstrail Boulevard.

According to the county, a transportation found projected traffic would not be significantly different when removing the Gloucester Parkway extension between Belmont Ridge Road and Cochran Mill Road. The analysis noted removing the bridge over Goose Creek will help preserve natural resources.

The county has other projects in its transportation plan aimed at addressing traffic congestion — a widening of Route 7 to eight lanes, Russell Branch Parkway extension, widening of Sycolin Road to four lanes and realignment of Cochran Mill Road.
