Tart Lumber Participates in Smithsonian Folklife Festival

The Sterling business welcomed Master Carpenters from from Hungary to construct the Dance Hall and Peacock Tower for exhibit The Hungarian Heritage: Roots to Revival.

The Hungarian American Coalition worked at Tart Lumber Company’s Custom Millshop in Sterling to construct its Dance Hall and Peacock Tower for the 2013 Smithsonian Folklife Festival on the National Mall. The Hungarian Heritage: Roots to Revival exhibit, which celebrates the culture of Hungary, is part of the Folklife Festival, which runs from June 26-30 and July 3-7, 2013. http://www.festival.si.edu/ http://www.festival.si.edu/2013/Hungarian_Heritage/index.aspx Foreman Gyula Szilágyi and engineer Sándor Herpai lead the Master Carpenters from Hungary on the Dance Hall and Peacock Tower, which will be featured during on the months-long collaborative venture between the Smithsonian Institution and the Balassi Institute in Hungary. The Hungarian Crew began working at Tart Lumber on June 4. The millshop parking lot served as a makeshift staging area for the preliminary assembly of the structures. The structure was expected to be moved to mall early this week. Tart Lumber has served Northern Virginia and Metropolitan Washington for more 60 years. Lynwood Tart started the company in Arlington in 1951 and opened the originial Sterling facility in 1973. Most people who drive along Route 28 in Loudoun are likely familiar with the Tart Lumber building.
