LOUDOUN COUNTY, VA — Trinity Rodman, a forward for the Washington Spirit of the National Women's Soccer League, is now the highest paid player in the history of the league.

Rodman, who is the daughter of NBA Hall of Famer Dennis Rodman, signed a four-year deal worth $1.1 million on Wednesday, Sportico reported. She was drafted by the Spirit with the second overall pick in the 2021 draft and was named the league's Rookie of the Year after her first season.

The club confirmed the signing in a news release on Wednesday afternoon. Octagon Sports, the agency that represents Rodman, also confirmed that that Rodman's "landmark deal" made her the highest paid player in NWSL history.

"We’re excited to re-sign Trinity and continue to support her development as a player," Club President Ben Olsen said. "She has accomplished a great deal early in her career and our focus is to provide the right environment for her to reach her potential."

Earlier this week, NWSL players ratified the league's first collective bargaining agreement. Among other changes, the deal increased the maximum and minimum player salaries to $75,000 and $35,000 respectively. Rodman's deal is able to exceed the maximum salary due through the use of allocation money, a spending allowance beyond budget caps and salary limits.

Rodman's contract now extends through the 2024 NWSL season, with an option for 2025.

In 2022, the Washington Spirit plan to split their home matches between Audi Field in Washington, D.C. and Segra Field in Leesburg. The team has not yet announced its schedule for the upcoming season.
