Washington Commanders Return Sunday: What To Know For 2023 NFL Season
The Washington Commanders will begin the post-Dan Snyder era with a game against the Arizona Cardinals to open the 2023 season on Sunday.

ASHBURN, VA — The 2023 NFL season began this week, and Washington Commanders fans will welcome the start of the post-Dan Snyder era.
The Washington Commanders open their season on Sunday, Sept. 10, against the Arizona Cardinals. The game will be held at FedEx Field in Landover, Maryland. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. The game will air on FOX.
Sunday's game at FedEx Field is sold out, the Commanders announced last week.

The team's new ownership group, led by Josh Harris, also announced plans to invest $40 million into the stadium. The funds will be used to upgrade the infrastructure for the 26-year-old stadium and enhance the fan experience.
Trista Langdon is the senior vice president of operations and guest experience for the Washington Commanders.

"We have the best fans in football – and they deserve the best game day experience," Langdon said in a news release. "These upgrades to FedExField represent an immediate and tangible step to improve that experience, something our ownership group considers a top priority."
The new fan experience will include fresh signage throughout the stadium and a new fan zone: the SeatGeek Legends Plaza. The plaza will include live music, tailgate activities, and a view of the team's warm-ups on the field.
The Commanders said FedEx Field will also get a fresh coat of paint, new themed suites, and new ticket scanning capabilities.
"Not only are we taking care of our fans, we're also taking care of our house," Langdon said. "Fans will continue to see improvements throughout the season as we continue to invest and make changes to everything from basic infrastructure to a re-imagined pregame ritual. We are excited for fans to come home and see all the changes on September 10."
The Commanders are scheduled to host eight home games this year. Notable match-ups include a date with the defending NFC champion Philadelphia Eagles on Oct. 29 and a game against the division rival Dallas Cowboys to end the season on Jan. 7.
Oddsmakers see the Commanders as a longshot in 2023 with second-year quarterback Sam Howell under center. BetMGM notes that the franchise has a 1.23 percent chance of winning a championship in 2023.
Howell has started one game in his career, but he'll be paired with new offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy. Bieniemy formerly served in the same role and won two Super Bowls with the Kansas City Chiefs.
