BURKE, VA — Burke Lake Park is hosting a celebration of the Lunar New Year on Friday, Jan. 27, with crafts, games, New Year’s resolutions, and a discussion about history and culture.

Lunar New Year is one of the most important celebrations of the year among East and Southeast Asian cultures, including Chinese, Vietnamese and Korean communities.

The celebration will take place at the Burke Lake Park Ice Cream Parlor from on Jan. 27 from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

The beginning of the year is determined by the Chinese lunar calendar and is associated with an animal sign according to the Chinese zodiac cycle. The sign for 2023, the rabbit, is a symbol of longevity, peace and prosperity.

The Lunar New Year event at Burke Lake Park is appropriate for ages 3 and older, and children must be accompanied by an adult who is also registered for the activity. Enrollment is $8 per person.

The public can visit the Fairfax County Park Authority website to register for the Lunar New Year celebration. Burke Lake Park is located at 7315 Ox Road in Fairfax Station.
