Fairfax Co. Residents Celebrate Parks And Recreation With Selfies
Fairfax County announced the five winners of its selfie photo contest held in July to celebrate National Park and Recreation Month.

FAIRFAX COUNTY, VA — The Fairfax County Park Authority on Wednesday announced the winners in the five categories of its selfie photo contest held in July to celebrate National Park and Recreation Month.
While the photo submissions demonstrated a diverse range of activities, settings, ages and culture, they were "connected by the common theme that Fairfax County residents find enjoyment, relaxation and strengthen their connection to family, neighborhoods and communities through Fairfax County’s park system," the park authority said.
The Fairfax County Park Authority held the selfie photo contest from July 24 to July 28. A winning entry was selected in five categories.

Here are the five winners:
- Sports and fitness: Libby McNulty at Pinecrest Golf Course
- Camps, classes and activities: Madison Buckley at Cub Run Rec Center
- Water activities: Shana Rothman at Burke Lake Park
- Leisure and play: Karyn Maria Miller at Lake Fairfax Park
- Volunteer service: Susan Laume at Laurel Hill Park
The winners were selected by a panel of judges, with winning photographers being awarded their choice of a golf-themed or water mine-themed gift pack.

This theme of 2023 National Park and Recreation Month was “Where Community Grows,” celebrating the role that parks and recreation play in bringing people together and fostering the growth of communities.
