Fairfax County Holding Selfie Contest To Celebrate National Park and Recreation Month

FAIRFAX COUNTY, VA — The Fairfax County Park Authority is holding a selfie photo contest from July 24 to July 28 to celebrate National Park and Recreation Month.

Residents are invited to join with family, friends and neighbors at Fairfax County Park Authority parks, trails and facilities and then take a photo and send the selfie photo of the group to the park authority.

This year’s theme of National Park and Recreation Month is “Where Community Grows.” The theme is a celebration of the role that parks and recreation play in bringing people together and fostering the growth of communities.

The selfie photo contest is open to park-goers of all ages Contest entries will be accepted online between 8 a.m. on Monday, July. 24 and 10 p.m. on Friday, July 28, in five categories:

• Sports and Fitness (fitness centers, golf, trail walking, running, skating, biking, athletics)
• Camps, Classes and Activities (organized FCPA programs, camps and activities)
• Water Activities (water parks, pools, boating, fishing)
• Leisure and Play (playgrounds, amusements, hiking, picnics, camping)
• Volunteer Service (service projects, volunteer groups)

One winning entry per category will be selected by a panel of judges with winning photographers being awarded their choice of golf-themed or water mine-themed gift pack. Winners will be selected and notified during the first week of August.
