Family of 13 Displaced After House Fire in Springfield

Friends and family are helping the Pearson family, organizing an online fundraiser on YouCaring.com.

FAIRFAX COUNTY, VA -- A family of 13 was displaced Friday afternoon, after a fire damaged their home in Springfield, according to Fairfax County Fire and Rescue.

Firefighters responded Friday at about 3:10 p.m. to the 7900 block of Foote Lane (see map below) for reports of a house on fire, the fire department said Monday on its Facebook page.

When they arrived, firefighters observed smoke and fire showing from the single-family home, the fire department reported. An aggressive attack was conducted and the fire was brought under control. There were no firefighter or civilian injuries, the fire department said.

The house had smoke alarms that activated after the fire had been discovered by an occupant of the home, according to fire officials. There were five occupants home at the time of the fire. Two adults and 11 juveniles have been displaced and will be receiving assistance from the Red Cross. Total loss of property is estimated at $25,000, officials said.

The fire originated in the living room. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
