Here are the top three stories today in Burke:
- On Feb. 22, two Fairfax County police officers fatally shot a man outside Tysons Corner Center while pursuing him for possible shoplifting. The Fairfax County Police Department is investigating the incident and will release the body camera footage within 30 days. When asked why the officers fired their weapons, Fairfax County Police Chief Kevin Davis said, "At some point in that chase, something happened that's still under investigation that prompted our two Fairfax County Police officers to discharge their firearm. That is what is under investigation. I don’t want to speculate why the officers discharged their firearms." (ABC 7 News)
- Joshua Campbell, 33, was indicted for the alleged strangulation of his wife, domestic assault, and battery in Fairfax County. According to the report, two alleged incidents in the summer of 2022 were reported to police after Campbell's wife left the state. (ABC 7 News)
- The Fairfax County-based search and rescue team, Virginia Task Force 1, returned home on Feb. 20 after searching for survivors in Turkey for several days. After the earthquake, the team was one of two U.S. groups deployed to help in Turkey through the U.S. Agency for International Development. When the team returned, Fairfax County Fire Chief John Butler told them, "Thank you once again for representing us very well, like you always do." (Virginia Patch)
