BURKE, VA — Are you hoping to make the perfect Halloween costume for yourself or your child, but just can’t seem to get it right?

Fairfax County Public Library’s Pohick Regional Library in Burke will be offering costume-making assistance on Sunday, Oct. 29.

The public is invited to bring their costume, materials, or just an idea for a costume, and library volunteers will see what help they can provide with their expert sewing, finishing and fixing skills.

This is Pohick Regional Library’s second year of costume consultations. The program started in 2022, right after the library's DIY/Maker Space opened.

The program is staffed with volunteers from a local sewing guild. They will have fabric, sewing machines and sewing accessories.

Pohick Regional Library staff don't anticipate anyone attending the consultations would be making a garment from scratch, but in theory they could with help from the volunteers.

"The sewing volunteers are there to consult with and guide projects — they won't sew for you, or walk you through a detailed step by step, but rather they can answer questions, help you do a particularly tricky stitch, help you get unstuck, or help you get started," FCPL said.

The costume consultations will take place in Pohick Regional Library’s Maker Space from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 29.

The Pohick library is located at 6450 Sydenstricker Road in Burke, just a block off Old Keene Mill Road.
