Garfield Principal Participates in NBC's Education Nation
Maureen Marshall was selected by the America Achieves Fellowship for Teachers and Principals.
Garfield Elementary School Principal Maureen Marshall has been selected to participate in the NBC News Education Nation Summit in New York City this weekend. She will attend the Teacher Town Hall Sunday, hosted by NBC Nightly News anchor Brian Williams, and meet with U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan.
Garfield Elementary School, part of the Fairfax County Public Schools system, is located in Springfield.
Marshall is part of a group of 100 outstanding educators nationwide chosen by the America Achieves Fellowship for Teachers and Principals to participate in the summit. During the coming year, these fellows will also participate in nationally significant projects to impact students, schools, and national educational policy.

America Achieves Fellows were selected based on their profound impact on student achievement, the quality of their classroom and school leadership and their commitment to learning and sharing their expertise.
Marshall received the Washington Post Distinguished Educator Leadership Award 2011, the Fairfax County Public School’s Principal of the Year 2011 and the Paul Harris Fellow Award 2011. Pursuing her passion in both education and policy, she took a leave of absence from Fairfax County Public Schools to work as legislative assistant for Sen. Susan Collin (R-Maine) from 1999 - 2000, dealing exclusively with education issues.
