Greenspring Senior Living's Scholars' Fund Celebrating 20+
Scholarships have helped launch countless successful careers, with recipients excelling in diverse fields such as healthcare, law, business.

Over two decades ago, a small group of residents from the Philanthropy Committee at Greenspring, an Erickson Senior Living community in Springfield, Va., took a bold step in shaping the future of young students by establishing the Greenspring Scholars' Fund. What started in 2000 with a single scholar has now grown to over 50 eligible student scholars each year, thanks to the generosity and dedication of Greenspring residents.
The Resident Council Philanthropy Committee continues to award scholarships to student employees of Greenspring, providing financial assistance for undergraduate education at accredited community colleges, universities, and trade schools. The scholarship program began as a $4,000 scholarship and has since grown to $10,000.
Over the years, these scholarships have helped launch countless successful careers, with recipients excelling in diverse fields such as healthcare, law, business, and public service.

The impact of the Scholars' Fund is best told through the voices of its recipients:
Makeda Fikremariam, Class of 2017 (James Madison University, Class of 2021, International Affairs & Philosophy) "I currently work in the Democracy and Governance sector as a program officer and have also founded my own floral business! Greenspring provided me with a supportive community that shaped my journey. Your investment in our future made a lasting impact that I continue to cherish today."
Kenneth David Green III, Class of 2012 (Concordia University, Class of 2017; University of Central Florida (MA) Class of 2020, Current Work: Department of Commerce) "I would like to extend my deepest thanks to the residents, not just for the scholarship but the wonderful years of meaningful relationships with the residents and wisdom that has been of continued blessing in my life. I fondly remember so many residents who always encouraged me with my education and dreams."
Diana Pena-Moreno, Class of 2017 (University of Wisconsin-Madison, Class of 2021, Information Systems & Management) "I currently work as an auditor. Coming from a low-income family and being the first in my family to attend college, the Greenspring Scholarship was truly life-changing. It helped cover many costs that allowed me to graduate without student loans. I'm incredibly grateful to the residents who donate to this program. Thank you for believing in students like me and making a difference in our lives."
Tracy Tranchi, Class of 2013 (George Mason University, Class of 2019, Health Administration) "I currently work as an administrator at an Endoscopy Center. I'd like to say this program that Greenspring has is truly impactful. Because of Greenspring and its residents, I was able to receive my degree and work in that field. Greenspring has shaped me with work ethic and personable skills that gave me confidence at an age where I was figuring myself out."
Viola Zhao, Class of 2017 (Virginia Commonwealth University, Class of 2021, Clinical Laboratory Sciences) "Thank you to the residents of Greenspring and all those who make the Greenspring Scholarship possible. Not only did the scholarship get me through school financially, but the thought that there were people who cared enough to help put students through school motivated me to do my best so that one day I could find success and do something similar."
