Holiday Toy And Food Drive Hosted By West Springfield District Station

WEST SPRINGFIELD, VA — Officers from the West Springfield District Police Station will be hosting a toy and food drive on Saturday, Dec. 9.

The Holiday Toy and Food Drive, at the Giant Food at 8320 Old Keene Mill Road, will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Dec. 9.

The police station is asking for new, unwrapped toys to be donated. The toys will be sent to Fairfax County Police Department’s Motor Squad for its Santa's Ride event. The Motor Squad will be delivering the toys to children at the Inova Children’s Hospital and the Georgetown Hospital Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center.

Food donations will benefit ECHO, or Ecumenical Community Helping Others, a volunteer charity that provides food and financial help to people with short-term emergencies.

For the food drive part of the event on Dec. 9, ECHO is looking for canned vegetables, canned soup, spaghetti sauce, pasta, jelly, vegetable oil, muffin mix, Jello/pudding mix, mac and cheese, pancake mix, canned tomatoes, boxed rice, peanut butter, eggs, margarine, bread, condiments, canned meat and other food items.

Officers and community volunteers will be located just outside the Giant Food on Old Keene Road on Saturday to receive the donations.
