Lake Braddock Gets 13 Cappies Nominations For Bram Stoker's 'Dracula'

Lake Braddock scored 13 nominations for its production of "Dracula" in the D.C. area high school theater's version of the Tony Awards.

BURKE, VA — Lake Braddock Secondary School's performance of Bram Stoker's "Dracula" received 13 Cappies nominations for its production of the play.

The prestigious National Capital Area Cappie Awards are considered the Tony Awards for high school theater in the D.C. region.

Lake Braddock's Cappies nominations for "Dracula" include Best Play; Special Effects and or Technology, Soeun Lee; Hair and Make-up, Emily Brennan; Props, Kat Brill; Lighting, Katie Brusseau and Sungah Kong; Costumes, Angelia DeJesus; Stage Management, Alexandra Wyant; and Stage Crew, Madison Eismeier, Kinsey Lin and Leah Rajnik.

Other Cappies nominations for Lake Braddock's production of "Dracula" are Ensemble in a Play, The Transylvanians; Supporting Actor in a Female Role in a Play, Amelia Campbell-Reidhead; Supporting Actor in a Male Role in a Play, Noelle Koss; Lead Actor in a Female Role in a Play, Lake Rusch; and Lead Actor in a Male Role in a Play, Alex Perry.

The gothic novel, Dracula, written by Abraham (Bram) Stoker, was published in 1897. Steven Dietz was inspired to write the stage play adaptation nearly a century later and the play was first debuted by the Arizona Theatre Company in 1995, Maryn Brown of Westfield High School wrote in a review of Lake Braddock's performance of the play.

The students performed "Dracula" on April 23-24 and on April 29 at the Lake Braddock Theatre.

Winners of the Cappies awards will be announced at the Cappies Gala on June 12 at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in DC.
