Lunar New Year Celebrated At Burke Lake Park With Games, Crafts
Residents gathered at Burke Lake Park for the park's inaugural Lunar New Year celebration, attracting a large crowd of children and adults.
BURKE, VA — Residents gathered at Burke Lake Park on Jan. 27 for the park’s inaugural Lunar New Year celebration.
The inaugural event drew an impressive crowd, with children and adults playing games, making crafts, setting New Year’s resolutions and enjoying traditional treats from many different cultures, according to the Fairfax County Park Authority.
“The Lunar New Year was a wonderful event for guests of all ages to experience a variety of cultures that celebrate Lunar New Year,” Wangin Bang, one of the program’s organizers, said in a statement. “The support from our community and the way this event was received is a real tribute to how we value and celebrate our diversity.”

The beginning of the year is determined by the Chinese lunar calendar and is associated with an animal sign according to the Chinese zodiac cycle. The sign for 2023, the rabbit, is a symbol of longevity, peace and prosperity.
The celebration was a collaboration between the Fairfax County Park Authority and Community Art for Everyone.
