
The Closet of Greater Herndon recently awarded $l6,500 in college scholarships to 15 high school graduates in ceremonies at five local high schools.
The names of the 2011 scholarship winners are:
MOUNTAIN VIEW ALTERNATIVE HIGH SCHOOL (Centreville): Emerita Ayala, Ingris Portillo and Elias Rivera

OAKTON HIGH SCHOOL: Vincent DeGuzman, Carlos Barbery Santander and Lisa Wright
PARKVIEW HIGH SCHOOL (Sterling): Hiep Bach, Hadjer Lahlah and Alexa McManus

Since 1974 The Closet has awarded over $380,000 in college scholarships to more than 365 students. In this same 37 year period The Closet has distributed over $2.4 million in direct cash grants to local direct service groups of which the scholarship program is an important part.
The Closet of Greater Herndon is a non-profit thrift shop founded and operated by numerous area faith based communities.
Donations of clothing and small household items are always needed, graciously accepted, and may be dropped off at the store on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Retail store hours are 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.
