CVHS Boys Lacrosse Closes Season With Victory Over Westfield
The Wildcats followed with a playoff victory over the Herndon Hornets, but fell to the Robinson Rams in the Concorde District semifinals.

The Centreville Varsity Boys Lacrosse Team finished their regular season play with a win at home over cross-town rival Westfield High, 9-7.
Seniors Nathan Marks, Andy Balberde and Tyler Vennergrund each had two goals for the evening. Senior David Weisbrodt had one goal; and freshman Brett Clark had two goals. Lending assists during the game were Tyler Vennergrund, Nick Ziegler and Kyle Richbourg.

The Wildcat defense had another extremely solid performance during the competitive game. The man down unit consisting of Antonio Choi, Ben Kandel, Pat Lilburn, Kainoa O'Connor, and Logan Wakefield held Westfield's extra man opportunities at bay. Goalie Pat Prosser frustrated the Bulldogs scoring threats by blocking critical shots, with (10) saves for the night. Defensemen Antonio Choi and Pat Lilburn kept the Wildcat offensive going with excellent transition from the defensive side of the field, pushing the ball quickly into the skilled sticks of the CVHS midfielders and attack for several impressive goals.
The Centreville varsity team finished their regular season play with a record of 10 wins and 4 losses.

Entering Concorde District playoffs, the Wildcats faced the Herndon High School Hornets, defeating them 13 to 2 in the first round of play. Attackman Tyler Vennergrund led Centreville in goals, with five for the night. Other scorers were Danny Meador with three; Brett Clark with two; and Nathan Marks, David Weisbrodt and Andy Balberde each had one goal for the evening.
Nathan Marks and Danny Meador led the Wildcats in assists with two each; and Sean Doyle, Antonio Choi, Andy Balberde, Tyler Vennergrund and Brett Clark each had one assist for the game. Antonio Choi, Ben Kandel, Pat Lilburn, Nick Zeigler, Kainoa O'Connor, John Clements, Logan Wakefield and Phil Anderson significantly contributed to shutting down the offensive threats for the Hornets throughout the game.
Michael Bollman, Josh Kim, and Charlie Suarez took over the defensive reigns in the second half and continued with outstanding defense, not allowing the Hornets to score. Once again, the Wildcat man down unit proved too much for Herndon and stifled the Hornets extra man opportunities. Contributing to the team defense were goalies Pat Prosser, with nine saves for the evening, while Goalie Kent Roy had two.
The varsity Wildcats faced the Robinson Rams in the semi-finals of the Concorde District Tournament, losing 9 to 8 in overtime.
Midfielder Andy Balberde led the Wildcats scoring with three goals. Nathan Marks had two goals; and David Weisbrodt, Danny Meador and Brett Clark each had one goal in the highly competitive and exciting game. Defensive midfielders John Clements, Logan Wakefield and Nick Ziegler had outstanding play during the evening, while Sean Doyle and Kainoa O’Connor kept up a constant pressure with aggressive play and ground balls.
Triple-threat play by the in-close defensemen, Antonio Choi, Ben Kandel and Pat Lilburn shut down the scoring threats from the Robinson attackmen and kept Robinson’s scoring opportunities to -0- during the Wildcat’s man down situations.
Goalie, Pat Prosser had another strong performance between the pipes with 14 saves in the game. With the score tied at 8-8 at the end of the regular game, the Wildcats went into overtime.
Despite several attempts at scoring, with one shot even hitting the pipes; and with three impressive stopped shots by goalie Pat Prosser, Robinson was able to score the winning goal with 22 seconds left on the clock.
The Wildcats will begin play in the Northern Region Tournament this coming week.
