Feds Granted Va. Nearly $30M for Homeland Security in 2011

Virginia received nearly $30 million in federal grants for local and state law enforcement to beef up on security during 2011, according to a report by the Center for Investigative Reporting. 

Va. ranks no. 17 among states in the amount of money it obtained in homeland security grants for the year. When considered as per capita spending, the state ranks no. 41. In all, Va. received $29,905,809 in grants for the year. 

The most money by far—over $9 million in grants—went to Virginia's state homeland security initiatives. Nearly $7.5 million went to emergency management performance.
