CENTREVILLE, VA—No one was injured Sunday, April 7, during an apartment fire in the 14300 block of Summer Tree Road, according to Fairfax County Fire and Rescue. Estimated damages were $75,100.

Shortly after 4 p.m., units were dispatched to the three-story, garden-style apartment building for a reported fire. Upon arrival, they saw smoke coming from the building and quickly found a kitchen fire in one of the apartments, which was unoccupied. Firefighters quickly extinguished the flames.

An estimated 25 people were in the building during the fire but no one was displaced. Smoke alarms were present but it's unknown if they functioned. The building doesn't have fire sprinklers. Investigators deemed the fire accidental, and said it started when cardboard boxes had been placed on the electric range burner, which was turned on accidentally.
