Five Things to Know in Centreville This Week

Talking about teen drug use: When Centreville teen Alicia Lannes died in 2008 from a heroin overdose, the FCPD, FBI and U.S. Attorney's Office launched a joint task force to arrest and convict 16 members of the "Centreville Drug Ring." Another 38 in Prince William and western Fairfax Counties were arrested the following year. 

Lannes will speak about the devastating consequences of teen drug use, the need for parental awareness and early intervention, along with how the community can help prevent drug and alcohol use. for additional details. 

Honor retiring educators: Judy Thomson (second grade teacher) and Peggy Dull (computer lab), both long-term staff at , will retire from Fairfax County Public Schools this year. Save a puppy:, a local network of volunteers dedicated to rescuing animals, is bringing 100 puppy mill dogs to Virginia this summer. Volunteer Patti Stinson wrote on Patch that the last time the group did this, it cost almost $100,000. They need donations to cover the cost in addition to foster homes for the pups.
